Shaykh AbdulAziz Ahmed

“My companions are like stars,
you will be guided by whichever one you follow

[Musnad of Imam Abu Hanifa, Al-Baihaqi and Al-Daylami]

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, described his Noble Companions as the ‘Best Generation’. The lives of the men and women who lived around the Messenger (peace be upon him) provides us with a rich source of knowledge, spiritual and practical guidance and inspiration as Muslims living in the West. It is essential we know the individual personalities, contributions and achievements of this remarkable group of men and women as they helped lay the foundation of our Ummah.

This one day course with Shaykh Abdul Aziz Ahmed is an invitation to come on a journey into the past to meet some of the inspirational companions in order to learn the spiritual and practical lessons from their extraordinary lives.

… Insha’Allah see all you bright sparks there!

This lame student recently asked a Yemeni Shaykh a question and informed him of a dilemma we were afflicted with. All he replied back with was “Allah” . A bit perplexed with the answer we asked for clarification only to gain the same response - “Allah” - and then we left one another in His Tawfeeq.

For any other student they probably would find the answer a tad bit frustrating but personally, for this student, being left alone to just ponder and patiently take in the realities of the teaching is far more beneficial than to be spoon fed an answer. So we reflected but out of tiredness didn’t reflect for too long.

Two days went by, trying to reflect on what Shaykh really meant, and then Subhan’Allah our eyesight was brought to the following Hadith in Imam alNawawi’s compilation of Forty Hadith:

Abu al’Abbas ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

One day I was behind the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him), and he said to me:

O young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice]: Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. If you (have need to) ask, ask of Allah; and if you seek help, seek help from Allah. Know that even if the Nation (or the whole community) were to gather together to benefit you with something, they would not benefit you with anything except that which Allah has already recorded for you, and that if they gather together to harm you with something, they would not be able to harm you with anything except that which Allah has already recorded against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.

[Al-Tirmidhi]

… Alhumdulillah this student gets it now… that’s what Shaykh meant by the response: “Allah” .

Please make dua for the Shayukh who put up with this lame student; and also for this lost student who has a long way to go in her learning. Allahumma Ameen.

Mutiara Qasidah by Al-Imam Abdullah Bin Alawi Al-Haddad

Here are just a few of the many Qasidahs by Imam alHaddad (may Allah be pleased with him) that reminds this student of Allah, His Rasool (peace and blessings be upon him), the scholars of Islam and Tarim.

May Allah have mercy on us, shroud us in His Tawfeeq, and provide us openings during our many trials to gain closeness to Him and our beloved Rasool (peace and blessings be upon him). Allahumma Ameen.

The word ’sameer’ is the one who spends his night talking. So the husband should be ’sameer’ to his wife and she should be ’sameera’ to him, by talking to one another before going to sleep.

Shaykh AbdulAziz Ahmed mentioned the above teaching whilst commenting on the Qasida Burdah in the Online Halaqa today. Subhan’Allah what a reflection within itself. May Allah grant our shayukh His Tawfeeq and Mahabba, provide them hidayya, and elevate their states in the next world. Allahumma Ameen.

Today was the first class out of the many to take place Insha’Allah. If you wish to register for the course then please feel free to contact the Halaqa as detailed:

Commentary on The Qasidah Burdah

Subhan’Allah, today this pauper learnt something profound that she’d like to share with you all.

Once a week, Shaykh AbdulAziz Ahmed teaches from Imam al Haddad’s Nasaih al-Dinniya via the Online Halaqa. I’ve always found benefit in attending these classes as they’re a means to be polished by Imam al Haddad so to speak and verily each student gets what they intended (as long as the intention is good and in accordance to Islamic Law).

So what made today’s class different? This pauper isn’t really sure but the profoundness of the message to be learnt has really hit home. Amongst learning about the rights one has towards children, parents, and ones spouse Shaykh AbdulAziz also taught us, in passing, the meaning of “Ahlan wa Sahlan”:

Ahlan is to say “you’re like my family”;
Sahlan is to say “take it easy”
Conclusion: “you’re like my family and so take it easy”

Subhan’Allah, when one acquaints with someone and says “Ahlan wa Sahlan” it is in essence opening up the door of becoming part of ones family. As this door opens, it becomes the responsibility of the individuals to make sure that the rights of one another are fulfilled in order to gain His Ultimate Compassion; and equally it becomes important not to abuse one another or forsake one another such that the ties become shaken.

Subhan’Allah, three “simple” words make a whole family… Subhan’Allah how profound is that.

May Allah protect our Shayukh and their families from the harms of this world, increase them in khimma, and forever keep them in His Tawfeeq and Mahabba. Allahumma Ameen.
