Amidst the silence you will find Me…

Deafened by the voice of desire you are unaware the Beloved lives in the core of your heart.
Stop the noise and you will hear His voice in the silence.

This pauper is going through some random hard times at the moment but amazingly for the last few days of remaining silent we’ve been able to take in that which we possibly wouldn’t have taken in if there was background noise. A few teachings that were presented to this pauper whilst she sought clarification:

Shaykh Muhammad bin Yahya Al-Husayni Al-Ninowy came to mind when we were trying to clean out my room. In particular, we thought of something he (May Allah grant him Much Good in this world and the next. Allahumma Ameen) said in a Halaqa we attended ages ago. He said that we should aim for a honeylife and not a honeymoon whereby we make ourselves be in His Presence all the time. During the honeymoon period we sit and converse with our spouse so that we can enjoy every moment in their presence. Shaykh mentioned that though a honeymoon is good we ideally need to be aiming for a honeylife – a state that’s never changing and is constant with Allah in mind – we want a life filled with honey (i.e. a honey life).

As we sought something to soothe the “something is missing” feeling that we had, Al Habib Ali al’Jifri (May Allah grant him Much Good in this world and the next. Allahumma Ameen) came to mind, he was reciting something familiar but not precisely known to this pauper so we searched and by His Ultimate Grace found it:

And then today as we looked up the Ninety Names of Allah we found ourself being drawn to the Name “Al-Basit (The Reliever)” where we found this beautiful teaching by Maulana Rumi (May Allah grant him the highest of states in Heaven. Allahumma Ameen):

Sometimes, in order to help, He makes us miserable;
but heartache for His sake brings happiness.
Laughter will come after tears.
Whoever foresees this is a servant blessed by God.
Wherever water flows, life flourishes:
wherever tears fall, Divine mercy is shown.

[Maulana Rumi]

How amazing it is that even when His slave is feeling confused He reaches out and encompasses us in His Tawfeeq (Enabling Grace), His Rahma (Compassion) and makes us wary of His Signs.

Ya Rabb! Make us of those who are patient and are of Your people and not the peoples’ people. Allahumma Ameen.
